Whether you want to sprinkle the outside with rainwater, or use it to "feed" various facilities in the house (washing clothes, toilets, laundry ...), installing a water collector rain is an ecological and economical solution (in the long term). Here is a step by step in 4 stages of the work which results from it!
Step 1: installing the tank
After determining the location of the tank (knowing that it must be placed at least 1.20 m from the house and the further away from it, the more important the work), the work can begin . First step: install the tank. First dig a pit, and make sure the bottom is stable and free of rubble. It is then covered with sand (minimum 10 cm thick), then the tank is carefully installed. How? 'Or' What ? By first bloodying it in order to be able to lift it (using a crane) and place it in the pit according to the planned orientation. Then, we backfill around the tank using gravel. Note that when reaching a third of the tank, then two-thirds of its height, the idea is to compact it well before continuing the operation until the end, while leaving the connection holes accessible.
Step 2: the connection with the gutter
Next step: connect the tank to the gutter using a pipe. So how do you go about it? First, dig the trench (between 20 and 40 cm in width) which will allow the connection to 1 meter deep and so as to be inclined according to a slope of 1cm / m. This "slope" (towards the tank) is required to accelerate the flow of water. Then, install the conduit or the pipe (in PVC) by making the connection with the gutter at the base of the descent.
Step 3: installing the filter
If the tank is intended for use in the garden only (watering, etc.), the tank is, in principle, fitted with a rigid and removable filter which should be cleaned regularly. If the use of the tank is intended for the garden as well as at home (toilets, washing machine, sink, laundry ...), that is to say mixed, in this case, it is equipped with a filter to "bury" on the water supply route!
Step 4: the last installations
To complete the installation of the rainwater collector, the creation of other trenches is essential. If its use relates to the garden, it is necessary for example to think of feeding the activity "watering". The connection of the latter is made either on a stop valve to be integrated into the tank, or not far from it in a buried manhole. In the case of a mixed tank, two possibilities are to be considered. The first: an automated submersible pump. The second, a pumping station whose advantage is that it can be directly installed in the home, in the garage or in the basement. The important thing is that this supply circuit is independent of the house's drinking water pipe! Once these installations have been finalized, the work comes to an end. After checking the quality of the connections, the pressure level, etc., all that remains is to install the cover of the inspection hatch and finish backfilling the tank.
